Advisory Board

  • Dr Shih-Wei Sun

    Dr Shih-Wei Sun was previously Vice Chairman, CEO, and COO of United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) in Taiwan. He joined UMC in 1995 and was responsible for the operation of several wafer fabs, Central R&D, as well as the global foundry business development. As UMC CEO he successfully led UMC’s restructuring and strong recovery from the 2008 global financial crisis.

    Prior to joining UMC, Dr Sun worked for Motorola Semiconductor in Austin, Texas for 10 years on 68000 series, Power PC microprocessors, microcontrollers and memory products.

    After retiring from UMC, Dr. Sun worked with GSR Capital in Beijing as Venture & Operation Partner, and with McKinsey and Lam Research as Senior Advisor. He also served as Chairman of Advanced Micro Foundry (Silicon Photonics Co. in Singapore), Smarter Micro (RF Front-End Co. in Shanghai) and as Board Member of several global tech and private equity firms.

  • Adrian Friend

    Adrian Friend runs his private investment advisory management company, AF Partners AG. Its portfolio has included several technology-based ventures including UCMS Group, a $100m revenue independent call centre and billing company based in Australia, where he was a Co-Founder and which was sold to Aegis Group; Scala International; a pan European ERP company, where he also was a Co-Founder and which was first listed on Amsterdam Stock Exchange, and then sold to Epicor Inc.; Uproar Inc.; a $1bn market cap internet gaming business listed on NASDAQ, where he was a founding shareholder and which was sold to Vivendi; Fathom Technology; a Software Development outsourcing business based in Budapest/Hungary, where he was a Co-Founder and which was first merged with EPAM Inc., and  then listed on NASDAQ; Logmein Inc., a provider of software as a service and cloud-based remote connectivity services for collaboration, IT management and customer engagement, founded as 3amLabs in 2003, where he was a Co-Founder and which was listed on NASDAQ in 2009.

    Prior to his private investment activities Mr. Friend was a principal and fund manager of a number of private equity funds and started his career at Citibank then Merrill Lynch.

  • Prof Leon F. McGinnis

    Leon F. McGinnis is Professor Emeritus at the world’s leading Industrial & Systems Engineering school at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he also served as Associate Director of the Manufacturing Research Center and founding Director of the Keck Virtual Factory Lab. His world-leading research focuses on the application of operations research and computer science to solve decision problems arising in the design and operation of industrial logistics systems. He has a long collaboration track record with the D-SIMLAB founders in various semiconductor manufacturing and logistics related research projects.
